Cheryl Sellers Johnson, a tax and trusts and estates attorney and a member of Press, Dozier & Hamelburg, practices wealth transfer planning, trust and estate planning, tax planning, business formation and succession planning. Ms. Johnson provides a special emphasis on the intersection of these practice areas with clients’ intellectual property assets. She advises clients such as small business owners, mid-net worth, and real estate investors on a full spectrum of financial and estate planning issues, including wealth transfer, business and tax planning. Ms. Johnson develops customized solutions that emphasize clients’ personal priorities and wealth transfer objectives.
Ms. Johnson has a background in intellectual property law including an emphasis on assisting clients in wealth transfer planning for intellectual property assets. She assists clients who are authors, artists, and art collectors, as well as individuals and businesses with patent, trademark, and trade secret assets. She advises on software licenses, professional services licenses, royalty licenses, and other intellectual property license assets.
Ms. Johnson also works with clients who have real estate investment assets. She protects their personal assets from real estate investment activities, and conversely their real estate investment assets from personal liabilities. She advises on the use of entities such as limited liability companies, limited partnerships, family limited partnerships, family limited liability companies and irrevocable trusts.
Ms. Johnson received a Masters of Laws, LL.M. in Tax from Georgetown University in 2015. She graduated from the Chicago-Kent College of Law, Illinois Institute of Technology in 1994. She is licensed to practice in both Maryland and Washington, D.C.
